Planned & Current works on Dunball Roundabout: May/June 2025
Progress
With the initial works by Centregreat on behalf of Somerset Council completed on programme on the Western side of the A38, with McDonalds to the left, running Northbound to the current roundabout and entrance into Dunball Wharf. Works have now moved swiftly adjacent to these works outside Treleborg and the entrance to the Dunball Industrial Estate in order to accommodate the new widened footpaths and the pedestrian crossings and including new kerbing, ducting and utility works. Footpath and drainage kerbing works have also been undertaken from the bus stop along to the Admirals Table with pedestrian access walkways created whilst the works are ongoing.
The A39 was closed in order to remove the Variogard guard safety barrier and the central reservation has now been excavated new drainage put in and filled and will be landscaped with grass seeding in due course. The lanes on either side of the central reservation now have been resurfaced also and are currently being used whilst work continues on the lay by running towardsthe roundabout and in front of Treleborg. The tremendous progress on the Dunball scheme can best be seen via the two photos below showing our works in January and then April.
The next big phase will come (see road closures in traffic management below) with the A39 being closed in the night in order to plane and resurface and then put new road markings down. Also new signs and shared cycle way bollards kerbing on the corner of the roundabout close to the BP garage. We are also aiming to finish the footpath surfacing along the A38 alongside Wessex recycling and McDonald’s.
In addition, new Varioguard will be installed along the central reservation opposite Treleborg towards Bridgwater in order to protect the workforce (see amended road closures in traffic management below)
Traffic Management
Traffic Management requirements for the current works on the A38, will utilise a section of the new Lanes 2 and 3 northbound from Bridgwater to the Dunball Roundabout, this is to ensure the safety of the workforce and the public and also improves work efficiencies.
